Discover Western Corridor

The Western Corridor is the long arm of Serengeti National Park that reaches west towards Lake Victoria, following the Grumeti River through open plains, wooded hills and riverine forest. It is quieter than the central Serengeti, with fewer vehicles and wide views, and from May to July it becomes one of the most exciting places in the park, as the Great Migration moves west and the herds gather to cross the Grumeti.

The Grumeti River Crossings

The Grumeti is narrower than the Mara and its crossings are less famous, but they are just as dramatic: the river is home to some of the largest Nile crocodiles in Africa, which wait for the wildebeest and zebra as they plunge in. Outside the migration months, the Western Corridor still has good resident wildlife, including lions, giraffes, elephants, hippos and colobus monkeys in the riverine forest.

Getting There

Grumeti and Kirawira airstrips have scheduled flights from Arusha and the central Serengeti, and the corridor is about two hours' drive west of Seronera. Many of our guests combine it with the central Serengeti between May and July, when the herds are moving between the two.
