Discover Osiligilai
Osiligilai is a Maasai homeland near Ngabobo village in West Kilimanjaro, on the open plains between Mount Kilimanjaro and Mount Meru. It is all about culture: rather than watching from a vehicle, guests live for a night or two among a Maasai community, at an authentic lodge owned and run by the Maasai themselves.
The Maasai Way of Life
Days at Osiligilai are spent with Maasai hosts: walking the land to learn how plants and herbs are used for food and medicine, visiting a historic Maasai cave, trying spear throwing, and joining the famous adumu, the jumping dance in which young warriors leap high into the air, at sundown with Kilimanjaro on the horizon. Evenings end with a barbecue and stories around the fire.
Serval Wildlife Sanctuary
From Osiligilai, a half-day tour visits the Serval Wildlife Sanctuary in Siha, on the slopes of Kilimanjaro. Guests can walk among and feed giraffes and zebras, and meet rescued animals such as lions, colobus monkeys, bat-eared foxes, eland and ostriches, all with views of Mount Meru and Kilimanjaro.
Getting There
Osiligilai is about an hour and a half from Arusha and from Kilimanjaro International Airport, and is often combined with Enduimet and a Kilimanjaro day hike on our West Kilimanjaro tour.
