About the Lodge
Staying at Osiligilai Maasai Lodge
Osiligilai Maasai Lodge is an authentic cultural lodge owned and run by the Maasai community, on 20 acres of open land near Ngabobo village in West Kilimanjaro, between Mount Kilimanjaro and Mount Meru and about 15 km from Arusha National Park. It is a place to experience Maasai life from the inside, not as a show but as a guest of the community.
Guests sleep in traditional Maasai houses, built in the style of a Maasai boma but with comfortable beds and private bathrooms. There are traditional houses, deluxe rooms and suites, and the lodge is solar powered and built to be eco-friendly.
Days revolve around Maasai culture: nature walks to learn how plants and herbs are used, a visit to a historic Maasai cave, climbing the rock tree, spear throwing and the adumu jumping dance at sundown with Kilimanjaro in view, followed by a barbecue and storytelling around the fire. From the lodge, a half-day tour visits the Serval Wildlife Sanctuary to walk among giraffes and zebras.
